The Ontario Membee User Group has just completed another successful and positive meeting. This self-run group meets twice each year in the spring and the fall to compare notes and share best practices with each other. They attend training and workshop sessions which are sometimes taught by Membee staff and sometimes by members of the user group itself.
In one of this fall’s most productive sessions attendees formed into working groups organized by job function. Some members of the group took on a leadership role and they walked their peers through hands on, interactive sessions. At the end of these hands on sessions, members of the working groups had rolled out new functionality on their websites.
Hard at Work – Comparing Notes
Here, in their own words, are quotes from attendees about the value of attending these meetings.
“I came away from the session with a new respect for Membee and what it can do for our office.” | Wendy VanderMeulen, Administrative Coordinator |
Elizabeth Waite, Executive Director – Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry "I was able to launch the social login function at the last user meeting and now my members are able to login to the members-only section of our website through the social login network of choice." | “I was able to launch the social login function at the last user meeting” |
| Kathryn Newell, Membership Services Coordinator – Burlington Chamber of Commerce “The most valuable aspect I get out of it is the branching off into groups session to discuss what we would like to see changed. It’s the fact that I am not at work being distracted; I learn about others experiences, problems and solutions so that we are not duplicating efforts, we are learning from each other. This session initiates great discussion. The results are something you can’t get from a skype session or a teleconference call.” |
Nancy Billard, Program & Marketing Coordinator – Chamber of Commerce Brantford-Brant "The Membee User Group meeting is an extremely valuable service that allows me, the customer, to get hands-on, step-by-step support from technicians and at the same time learn how other Membee users use the technology to create efficiencies and improve customer service. At the November User Group meeting I created and launched two valuable online tools for our customers, all in the first two hours – intuitive tools that manage themselves! So great."
| Sandra De Medeiros, Manager, Membership & Technology – Real Estate Institute of Canada find the face to face group sessions invaluable. I can easily grasp the concepts discussed and ask questions so that I can then apply them in the office. This significantly cuts down on the learning time! Also a great way to network with others! |
Cheryl Chambers, Office Manager – London Chamber of Commerce I find that attending the Membee User’s Group Meetings is a great opportunity. Taking the time to learn about features we may not be taking advantage of, with a group of peers and sharing best practices is invaluable and well worth the investment. The chance to offer suggestions on enhancements and features we would like to see has produced positive results – Membee listens!
| Crystal Walsh, Office Administrator – Aurora Chamber of Commerce Attending the Ontario Membee User Group Conference was an extremely valuable time investment. At the conference, I was able to gain an in-depth understanding of new and existing features in Membee that will benefit my chamber immensely. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to network with peers in similar roles; through these new connections I gained valuable insight on how to use Membee in conjunction with social media to promote our chamber and events. As I work in a busy office, I often do not have time to devote to researching the various helpful features Membee has to offer. Attending the conference gave me the opportunity to focus on the functionality of the database exclusively, which will ultimately make operations at my chamber run more efficiently.! |
Originally begun as a way for a small group of Membee users to get together to compare notes, they have been meeting for over ten years now. It is a dynamic group comprised of staff from all kinds of membership based organizations who all come together to find ways to overcome the challenges faced by all not-for-profit groups and find ways to work with Membee to make their organization's successful.
This Membee User Group meeting was held at the Delta Hotel in Guelph and they have hosted the event a number of times.
The staff at the Guelph Chamber of Commerce organized the event. We and the members of the group very much appreciate their ongoing commitment and efforts. Thanks to everyone!
Alan Boivin, General Manager, Delta Guelph Hotel and Conference Centre and
Wendy Brousseau, Operations Manager, Guelph Chamber of Commerce
