If you’re using Membee’s popular eBilling widget to handle membership renewal, you already know that in a couple clicks, the member has renewed, you’ve got their payment, and the whole thing is wrapped in an easy experience for the member.
There are very few places in the membership lifecycle where you truly have the member’s attention, well, at least most of their attention. One of those places is when the member is renewing their membership. So, we thought about how you can get more out of this rare, really rare opportunity.
What great opportunity to upsell to the member!
A powerful new Membee feature entitled “Additional Items for eBiiling” is in its final stages of testing and will be released in the next couple of weeks. Here are the highlights of this new feature:
- You can present additional items (unlimited) for purchase right on the face of their membership invoice
- It may be a one time only purchase such as
- Upcoming event registrations
- It may be a completely voluntary purchase such as
- A donation
- The additional purchases may even be mandatory such as
- Required professional insurance choosing from a couple of options
- The additional purchase may permanently change (upgrade) the member’s membership
- The opportunity to move up to a different membership level
- Membee takes care of all the related financial processing behind the scenes
There are literally a zillion… ok, half a zillion ways you can use this but we thought we would illustrate what are likely three really common ways you will put this feature to work in a little more detail.
Allow the Member to Permanently Upgrade Their Membership
One of the hottest trends we see across the “hive” are organizations grouping membership benefits into levels. Think “bronze, silver, gold, platinum” or “basic, advanced, premium” etc. A whole bunch of “platinum” or “premium” members means higher revenues and a much more engaged membership.
So, why not dangle the opportunity for the “bronze” member to move up? You’ll notice they can hop right from a $100 “Bronze” membership to a $1,000 “Gold” membership.

Sell An Event Registration When A Member Renews
If events are a major reason why members join your organization then you’ll want to remind them how great those events are by giving them the opportunity to register for another one while renewing their membership!
One quick financial note on this. To the member, it looks like one purchase but Membee actually creates a new invoice on the fly for the event purchase so your financial reporting of the membership renewal and the event purchase revenues remain separate and clear.
The member can complete the event registration right on the face of their membership renewal invoice!
