Warn Members With Suspension Automations

Use a “suspension” to restrict enough member benefits to get the delinquent member’s attention beyond the normal invoice reminders.

Increase Retention Rates

We recently spoke with Ray Pucci, President of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, and discussed his organization's use of this feature:

With Membee, Ray and his team are now able to easily keep track of each member’s status. They can customize a suspension email that will be automatically sent once the member's invoice becomes overdue. Ray and his team no longer spend time on the phone trying to get a hold of members with overdue invoices. By using this feature the organization has not only increased retention but has increased the time they are able to focus on growing and improving their organization!

What Happens to the Member?

When activating the cancellation/suspension feature members will still technically be members, but their account will now have a “suspended” status until payment occurs, or until the date you specified to have Membee completely cancel the member.

You can pick and choose which features you would want to take away from suspended members, such as:

Disable members listing in Directory
Remove from groups
Remove from Committees
Deactivate users
etc.

Easy to Set Up

The Cancel/Suspend Membership Automation is quick and easy to setup just like all of Membee’s other Automations:

The Automation will be listed in the Automation dropdown menu as “Cancellation”. If you want to only suspend members you would edit the Automation title, for example to “Suspensions”. You would then select what actions you want the Automation to take until payment is processed (Listed above).

You would also need to tell Membee a few housekeeping items such as:

When you would like the automation to start running
The number of days an invoice is past due that the members will be cancelled for
The changes you would like to make to all the cancelling members
The email template with the message you would like to send

This helps ensure nothing is missed as part of the cancel/suspension process and also helps maintain data consistency.

If you want to create a suspension automation and a cancellation automation you would just simply set up two “Cancellation” automations, making sure to edit the title of the automation accordingly.

As part of the automated message you are sending to these cancelled/suspended members, remember to customize the message that is sent out! A personal touch can do wonders for response times, and to portray a sense of urgency more customized to your organization.

Setting up your suspension automation email template gives you the opportunity to remind your members of the value that their membership entails! Remind them of what they would miss out on, and perhaps most importantly, that you will miss them!

Offer Promo Codes to Quick Responders

You can attach a promo code in your automated suspension emails. For example, you could set it up to be active for 5 days, so if members renew within 5 days of receiving their suspension email they can use the promo code towards an event ticket, their next months/years renewal, or maybe your online store!
